Hi: I apologize in advance if this is a lame question. The action on my Gibson seems to have drooped a bit (before I bought it, it sat unused in mint condition for at least 6 years, so I think it just "settled" after my playing it for 3 months). So for the first time ever, I tried to assert some independence and after reading the instructions in the Deering manual and looking at the Siminoff book, I tightened the coordinator rod by myself, maybe an eighth of a turn of the bottom nut inside the rim with a pair of pliers (and yes, only after loosening the outside nut). Some very small metallic flakes came off of the surface of the nut, is that a problem? I did remove the flakes with a Q-tip, on the theory that I didn't want particles rattling around inside the pot. The action is now where I want it, I'm just a little concerned that I've done some damage. It looks cosmetic damage on the nut's surface to me, but just in case someone knows this is worse than it looks to a newbie like me . . . .
Thanks.
