Looks like I'll be getting my birthday present a tad early this year. Just got an email from Wayne Sagmoen with pix of my new "short scale".
More pix in my photo-album under "Bacon FF Pro Short Scale"
This was originally a Bacon FF Mandolin-banjo (off of ebay, where else?). She led a hard life and was in pretty sad shape. The original neck was in tatters, bent, repaired poorly, reset poorly and missing bits and pieces. However, the pot looked ok from the pix. Unfortunately when I got it, it was really quite a mess. Someone had tried to fix a serious alignment problem by offsetting the dowelstick, adding some reinforcements, etc. You couldn't see it until disassembly. Glad I didn't pay much for it! Still, the pot could be rebuilt...so I sent it off to Wayne for conversion to a short scale...and here are the first pix of the result.
I asked Wayne to bring the pot back to life and create a 'basic' working short-scale neck out of mahogany. The only embellishment I wanted was the Bacon 'torch' in the headplate. Well...the pix look exactly like what I had in my head. I cannot wait to get it into my fat, grubby paws!
So..Happy early birthday to me! I'll try to post some mp3s or video of her when she arrives.
