I just got my load of fingerpicks in from Elderly and am experimenting.
I have:
1. perfect touch
2. Alaska
3. Ernie Ball "pickie"
4. Fred Kelly "freedom" pick
5. Ping pong ball pick (homemade from John Balch's design).
6. Clear plastic dunlops
7. Metal dunlops
I just started experimenting, but thoughts so far:
1. The perfect touch is really comfortable and seems to really help with accuracy, but it does (as you might expect) create a more metallic sound. If you don't mind that slight metallic edge, it makes you feel very "in control."
2. The medium Alaska pick looks like it should be a small, but it's actually the right size, as it expands. Way better than the large I bought a while back. I'm glad I got the medium, because it feels very natural and sounds really natural. The tone is probably the closest match to my nail (which is not necessarily better, but some might think so). This one feels the most natural to me.
3. Ping pong ball pick is also a really natural sound, brighter/clearer than the Alaska, obviously non-metallic. I don't like the feel quite as much as the Alaska, but it's also very adjustable (obviously, since I made it). Thinking about cutting a slit in to do the "under the nail" style of the Alaska. Still quite comfortable though.
4. Ernie Ball "pickie" is a very different sound, but may be appealing to some folks. Hard to describe, but very bright, and thinner, with the metallic edge (not surprising, as it's a metal pick). Feels pretty comfortable.
That's all I'd say for now. I'll comment on the others as I experiment more.
