Are all "slide" movements the same speed?

Hi all,

I'm just trying out the G lick from the music theory document that is stickied here on the forum, it's starting to come together now i have a bit more knowledge thanks to you lot.....anyway, my question is about the slide. 

This lick tells me to fret the 3rd string at the 2nd fret, and then slide it up to the 4th fret. Is there any particular speed i should be doing a slide at? I've never used a slide technique before so excuse the daft question. Obviously not all banjo music is played at the same pace, so does that mean the slides change speed as well?

I'm just working my way through the G lick very slowly at the moment, so until i build up a consistant speed it doesn't sound like anything to me lol.....but it will come.
