Eighth of January

The Battle of New Orleans, written by Jimmy Driftwood and based on the historical battle in 1815, came from the fiddle tune Eighth of January.  Though I like learning about history, for me it's important more as a useful learning step in playing melodic banjo.  I got it from Tony Trishka's book Melodic Banjo.  The whole A part is done in one position at the 9th to the 12th fret and using the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th open strings.  It's fun to play when you finally get all the notes right.
