Hi guys, having seen all the other advice given, I thought I would ask some. I am looking to purchase my first banjo, for bluegrass style. I believe a resonator is best and have about £250-£300 to spend. I live on the Isle of Man and we only have two music shops on Island. These both sell only Ozark banjos, and only base models of those. After reading some reviews, I contacted Andy Perkins in the UK, as they are supposed to offer quality instruments, well set up for a good price. After speaking to him, I found his stocks are low at present following christmas, and though he will be having a new delivery shortly, there will be an increase in price for 2012 of around 10-20% on each item. He has advised either a Goldtone CC50R at £255, or a Rally Californian at £230. This is partly due to them being in stock now at 2011 prices. What I want to know is are these good instruments to start on, or do I wait till he gets more stock and simply pay the extra?
I have not played Banjo as yet and am a complete beginner. Hooked on the sound of the Banjo for a few years and finally able to commit the time and funds to learning. Any advice gratefully accepted...... Cheers, Malc.
