I once read of a classical violinist who had acquired a particularly fine instrument made by one of the Cremonese masters (e.g. Stradivari, Guarneri, Amati). Though well-balanced, this violin had a particularly powerful G string (the bass for our non-fiddle playing brethren). Because of this, he weighted his repertoire heavily in the direction of pieces that made extensive use of this string.
