had a neat birthday present waiting for me at work today when i arrived at 4pm. UPS said delivery was for thursday so i was already like a cat on a hot tin roof all day, but had calmed down for the wait. Came to work, note was hanging that i had a "guitar" in the purchasing department. Couldn't believe it. scurried quickly to sonny to pick up my special box. took it into a quiet room and opened it up-not really knowing what to expect.
the hardshell case lid was lifted and i stared for a moment. a beautiful classy instrument lay before me. without touching it i just knew it held some awesome songs. picked it up and felt totally foreign and very much out of place(never held a banjo before and i've played lightweight-under 4 lb-guitars for the last couple years). i felt as if i picked an alien off the ground. hands didn't know quite where to go, i play seated always with guitar but again almost like i had a marble in my lap. i speak of all this not due to the instruments fault, but the player. i am a mear child immediately again at the age of 52...............................................and its scary, its strange, and its way cool!
plucked around on the strings and sounded horrible. checked out the spike at the 7th fret and thought that was the oddest thing i've ever seen on a fretboard(again, remember i'm new to all this). was laughing to myself because some of the guys i play guitar around would have an MI instantly if they found a spike on their guitar fretboard.
so now the journey begins in earnest. looking forward to the weekend so i can have some time to pull out the Levenson DVD and get going.
i want to thank Marc at Zepps Music for being such an awesome person in dealing with me. The first day i called i didn't have a clue on anything, just knew what the song was called that i wanted to learn to play. I've had an amazing purchase over the past week with Marc. Having called him up twice and asked more questions, he just keeps answering and we both laugh at times. This has been a lot of fun. You have a good one there on staff Mr Zepp!
thanks again many times over for all the answers to my many questions that you out there have provided, i know i'll have more.
