I have seen and have been guilty of the following::::
When dancing with a newcomer, it is nice to be able to show them what a great dancer I am by giving them a little extra "twirl", 'spin", of "movement' , BUT now realize that that ONLY SERVES TO CONFUSE THEM. Think about it. Most of them are already getting dizzy half way through the first swing, don't know to listen to the caller, are confused by 'crossing over', have had minimal instruction, don't understand the "hey", get mixed up when coming across another newcomer who is totally lost... and NOW have a "so called" experienced partner who is doing things that are not part of the called dance. PLEASE !!! Just keep it basic when you have an newcomer as a partner. They are NOT impressed by how 'cute' you are, or how 'suave' you are trying to be. They would probably be more likely to return if they went home feeling that the dances were simple to follow and not just "suggestions" as some dancers see them to think they are.. Now that this has been brought to my attention, I hope to be more helpful to new dancers in the future. If YOU want to do 'fancy' stuff, pick an experienced partner...LEE
