While swapping heads on my Gibson I noticed the ring to rim fit was a little odd to me. The ring is loose and I'm pretty sure that if I took the neck off and flipped it over the ring would fall right off. I noticed that the rim and ring aren't flush with each other. The neck side seems pretty good however, on the tailpiece end, there is a small gap between the rim edge and the ring. On the inside you can see a small part of the rim. On the outside the ring is overhanging the edge of the rim. Is this somewhat normal? Is the rim being too far in by the rods? I'm in no way comfortable adjusting the rods so I don't want to tinker with it and make it worse.
