purchased the 2 DVD set and book, came in the mail wednesday but had to wait till saturday to watch it. Saturday we received around 5 inches of snow and 15 degree weather, so after i did a run and walked the dogs, i settled down to an evening of watching both DVD's.

i don't have a banjo yet and don't know how to play. and i've received a lot of good info here-i especially like the Rocket Science Banjo from 'oldwoodchuck', lots of info there. so i really want to learn clawhammer/frailing and i am drawn to Mountain Modal tuning(sawmill).

For me, the double DVD set was just perfect. The photography and sound quality was crystal clear. I felt the instruction was very clear as well. I do believe it will make it possible for me to learn this style using the DVD's. Adornments are added step by step in the progression to one song, "spotted pony".  I saw where it was mentioned that a possible hitch was the tuning used(C to C), but in the 2nd DVD Dan shows use of a capo and playing the song in (D to D). I really appreciated how he showed to use relative tuning, in addition to a digital tuner. So for me, i really enjoyed this instruction and feel it will most definitely improve my chances in learning to play this style music. Everyone is different, i know some folks would probably prefer learning a couple songs immediately, but i really like the way he took one song from its most basic way and kept adding to it.

I also have the book/CD to go with this DVD set-just starting to go thru it tonite and i find it has the same friendly learning method, appears to be loaded with tons of info.

just thought i'd offer this short review. it really impressed me, can't wait to get my Ramsey and start up.
