I have Goldtone SMP pickups on 2 banjos and after about 5 minutes of playing static pops are picked up when moving fingers on the head while playing. The plastic pick guard does the same thing on my electric guitar. I tried moving the pickup and wires to different locations under the head with no improvement. So, I bought "JFJ DISC REPAIR Anti-Static Spray/Cleaner" and sprayed it on both sides of the head and also the pick guard on the guitar - no more static. I had this problem with 2 different amps also so I know it was the plastic parts on the instruments that the fingers rub on that was causing the static. I use clear heads so I had to polish them after application but if you use a frosted head you wouldn't have to polish it. Humbucker pickups seem to be ultra sensitive to static electricity.
