Engineers in Calcutta, India are trying to save the historic Howrah bridge from collapsing due to corrosion from spit! The bridge was open in 1943 and the half-million pedestrians who use it every day frequently spit their chewed tobacco onto the steel hangars that hold up the bridge. The Hangar bases have been reduced by 50 percent in just the last 3 years. The proposed solution? (no pun intended) Engineers plan to cover the bases in washable fibreglass and begin an education campaign where "Gods" implore pedestrians to hold their saliva until they've crossed the bridge
