Hi Everyone,
Lacquer on the fretboard binding is cracked and missing, and peghead has badly split lacquer.
Is there a chemical for removing old, yellowed, cracked lacquer from fretboard binding (that obviously won't melt the plastic binding)?
I'm thinking of some chemical applied with a q-tip to just hit the binding, and not get it on the neck. Same approach on the peghead surface; (peghead is ebony with MOP inlay). So also, a chemical that won't do damage or odd things to the MOP.
And then recoat binding with amber-tinted lacquer, and peghead with clear, from Stewmac.
Does this make sense? Suggestions?
Rest of finish is in great shape, so I obviously would like to avoid refinishing the whole thing if poss.
