Here's a question: A newcomer to the blood sport of Bluegrass banjo playing comes into the shop and asks me to put a new set of strings on his banjo in preparation for starting BG lessons.
Is there a conventional wisdom out there in BHO land about whether beginners ought to use light or medium or even heavy steel strings?
I generally stick with the middle of the road answer, both for myself and for new learners -- so the new players can figure out for themselves whether they need a thinner, lighter string or something more like barbed wire.
What do BG teachers say?
Thanks.
