Well, at the ripe old age of 60 I've decided to fulfill a long-simmering desire to learn to play bluegrass banjo. I've always enjoyed listening to it but figured I'd never be able to do it because it "sounds" like it is very difficult to do well. However, whether or not I become good at it is not longer an issue...the real issue is that I want to have a good time, even if my wife locks me in the garage while I'm playing! Here's my question, I don't want to purchase an instrument that will limit my growth (assuming I improve with time and practice) but I don't have $1,500 to spend either. I might add that we have only one dealer in the area and they sell only Gretch and Fender. However, there is a repair shop locally that could set up an instrument for me if I found one on-line that I thought might do the trick. I've been browsing the web and have found a few instruments that seem interesting including the Fender B58, the Washburn B16 and B17, and the Epiphone MB-250. I would appreciate any guidance that the membership could offer on these (or other) instruments. Many Thanks.
