bent fingers?

so my middle finger is bent to the left and i've been having trouble contacting the string with the flat tip of my pick.
then to day i seen a video on youtube about how you can twist the tip of your pick slightly to make better contact with the string, and i just thought id ask to see if this is a common thing.  how many people on here twist there picks??
